Combinatorial innovation explores and exploits how multiple technologies and non-technology events interact to create disruptions, drive trends or enable innovative opportunities to generate business value.
There are three components to combinatorial innovation that technology innovation leaders, should incorporate into their process for evaluating emerging technology trends:
1.Combine — Focus business innovation projects and proof of concept efforts by looking at different emerging technologies and trends that can be combined for maximum value.
2.Cluster — Invest in technology research that identifies how clusters of emerging technology components provide unique or higher business value that cannot be achieved when they are used by themselves.
3.Complement — To uncover new business opportunities, encourage initiatives that identify secondary areas and technologies that will be impacted by specific emerging technologies.
