Some of the most valuable companies in the world today—Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Facebook, and Microsoft—derive much of their worth from their multisided platforms (MSPs), which facilitate interactions or transactions between parties. Many MSPs are more valuable than companies in the same industries that provide only products or services: some notable examplebris Airbnb being worth more than Marriott, Uber worth more than historic taxi services owning the fleet.
However, what about the companies that are not necessarily in the business of offering the platform to the outside world. These companies can still look internally and see how their product and services can become part of their internal MSP and connect different systems and suppliers to exploit and monetize the data on their platform.
