Technology innovations must be one of key objectives for technology leaders. One of the key issues though is having a clear understanding of innovation effort across the organization. The common ground I see is where business teams appreciate the emerging technology and tech leaders having an understanding of business value it will bring.
The problem I have noticed that most of the innovation efforts are made grandiose, needing big funding requirements. This makes business teams reluctant to commit to such investments.
Tech leaders need to take different approach and start small with innovation efforts which provide business value and then incrementally work on them. These effort must be always be a collaboration of business and tech teams.
As Gartner highlights, tech leaders need four dimensions for establishing innovation and enablement function.
