Shrink the change to change

Our belief on change often is, that change happens in big leaps and movements, but almost all big changes come from the chunks of small changes.
One of the popular technique proposed by Marla Cilley, a home organising guru is “5-Minutes room rescue”. She suggests, get a kitchen timer and set it for 5 minutes. Then go to the room you want to organise, start tidying the room as the timer ticks and stop as soon as the timer stops. Though it may not organise the room fully but it motivates the Elephant within you to get started.
A small win reduces importance (‘there is no big deal’), reduces demands (‘that’s all that needs to be done’) and raises perceived skills (‘I can do that’). This makes change self-sustaining.

So when the change looks overwhelming, try to shrink it.
