Could resistance to change be lack of clarity?

In my last blog I wrote about the concept of Elephant(emotional self) and Rider (rational self) and Elephant’s weakness of being lazy due to exhaustion. Hence not being motivated to take any action for change. However Rider has its issues too i.e. analysis-paralysis of a change effort. If the Rider isn’t sure he takes the Elephant in circles, creating lack of clarity.
In a study researchers found that the milk is the single largest source of saturated fat in the typical American diet. In fact the calculation showed if American’s switched from whole milk to skimmed or 1% fat milk; they still get the recommended levels of saturated fat. So the question was how do you get these people to start drinking low fat milk.

Researchers came out with an easier solution, rather than changing drinking behaviour,
change their purchasing behaviour. They launched the 1% milk awareness campaign in a small community and results were pleasantly surprising. They concluded if you tell people to act healthier, give them specific actions such as switch to 1% milk.

So what looks like resistance for change is often a lack of clarity.
