Interesting debate with my colleague during a peer review.
His comments were that the slide deck I put for presenting one of the solution analysis isn’t self-explanatory.
My point was that it is the very same reason we do presentation for, slides are just a medium to express the context and emotions behind the message.

As an architect I do produce a lot of documentation and do governance on the documentation produced by others and fully agree with the idea of self explanatory documents suchlike requirement document, design document, technical interface document, vendor contracts etc.
But for the documents which carry emotions and context, effort to make them self-explanatory would do more harm than good.
